The Skills Online Bangladesh initiative brings the 21st century skills and mentorship support to the Bangladeshi youth and adult. The courses are offered to four categories of youth and adults: those who are in employment, but would like to engage in re-skilling or up-skilling; those who wish to gain skills to strengthen their mini- and micro-enterprises; aspiring entrepreneurs who are interested in initiating start-up ventures and those who are interested to gain new skills to enter into job market.

The Skills Online Bangladesh initiative works with private training centers, educational institutions and employers, business associations, entrepreneur’s associations and non-government orgnizations to close skill gaps for in-demand jobs responding to employer and industry needs through directly supporting youth and adult to participate and complete skill and professional development courses offered by  leading e-learning platforms. The project is aligned with Bangladesh’s National ICT Policy and skill development initiatives that promotes the use of new training tools such as ICT to build a skillful workforce.

Participants currently have access to over 3500 E-Learning courses on an E-Learning Platform under the following categories: Leadership & Management, Marketing, Office Productivity, Cloud Computing, Data Science, Design, Development, Finance & Accounting, Human Resources , IT Operations , Personal Development , Project Management & Operations and Sales. The courses are accessible through smart phone and desktop/laptop computer. All trainings courses provided under this initiative is free of cost thanks to the financial assistance from the Commonwealth of Learning.

During the COVID 19 lockdown, over 88% of the project participants in Bangladesh were actively learning new skills online on the E-Learning platform.

The project also develops a pool of E-Learning Ambassadors in Bangladesh who sensitizes local communities to utilize open learning resources and E-Learning platforms to gain news skills, provide free sessions to the schools, colleges, universities and NGOs, training centers in the target district.
